Stig Kristoffersen asked:

New and faster iPhone 3GS

The same exteriors, but inside it is different. A new price model has been introduced as the basis model will cost USD 99 for the Americans.

Anti theft system is introduced on the new iPhone as well, which makes it easier to allocate and to stop misuse of your phone.

Over hundred new features were presented to the audience, and the new iPhone 3GS seems to deliver more to the users, it remains to see if it will strike a cord amongst the developers as well.

We look forward to see new applications that will take care of the upgrades offered to the users.

The yearly Apple developer’s conference had drawn a crowd as usual. As expected the Apple boss Phil Schiller could reveal a new and faster iPhone, called iPhone 3GS. It is supposed to be faster than the one available in the market now and the S stands for, yes you guessed it – Speed. The new cell phone will be able to download faster as well.

The iPhone 3GS will get HSDPA connection, which will make it faster on the turbo 3G network. With a new camera it will also get an upgrade with respect to megapixels as it will get 3 megapixels and will have autofocus functionality. The new model will also be able to edit and share video on the phone.

On the exterior it will be no changes, as all changes are under the hood so to speak. It will have a compass for automatic orientation of the map on the GPS and a possibility you lots of accessories to it as well that will make it more suitable for use in the car. It will now be able to connect to the car stereo via a Bluetooth or USB connection.

Apple will also make sure this model gets a new price model for the version with least memory. For the Americans the new basis model will cost 99 USD.

If you are one of those who always misplace your phone and wonder were it has gone? Well, what about unwanted snoozing into the content of your phone and try to call for your money? The new iPhone makes it possible to fix all of this from a Windows or Mac close by.

The cell phone can be located from a PC and pop up on a map for its location. It can be locked and notify the finder of the phone that it is missing and can be erased if the finder of the cell phone do not deliver it back. Locating the phone happens through the GPS in the cell phone and the alarm that alert that the phone is missing will be there regardless of the phone is on or off.

There are over hundred changes in the new iPhone 3GS and in addition the new operating system 3.0 will be in all iPhones from now on. But not all owners of iPhones will get this benefit as owner of phones older than 2 years will not be able to get MMS on their phones.

The upgrade is free for iPhone owners or for around 20 USD for the iPod Touch owners.

A new Mac was also presented during the venue were new Apple laptops were presented. A 13 inch screen model has been upgraded to become a member of the Pro serieand has got accessories like SD card reader and a better screen.

How to Compare GPS Units to Get the Best One For You

Lee Cole asked:

In order to figure out which of the many GPS systems is best for you, you need to compare GPS units in some logical way. To do this you need to first understand what is being offered and how much that’s going to cost you. If you know your budget, you can narrow down the selection quite a bit. After that, it’s just a matter of fine tuning what extra features you want.

By GPS units, I mean the kind you attach to your car’s windshield, not the kind you take hiking with you. There are a lot of GPS systems out there and finding the right one seems confusing at first. In this article, I’m going to focus mainly on systems built by Garmin, Tom Tom, and Magellan, since they are the biggest manufacturers.

All GPS units keep track of where you are and calculate routes to where you’re going. Here’s a list of what virtually every GPS device can already do. Think of this as standard equipment.

All GPS’s

* Give you directions with voice prompts.

* Have a touch screen.

* Have different views or representations of their maps.

* Include a database of Points of Interest (POIs).

* Come with maps of the lower 48 states.

* Automatically calculate your best route.

This is all great, but it’s the extra or optional features that are the real kicker!

According to how much you want to pay, you can get:

* Spoken street names, instead of just plain voice prompts.

* A larger 4.3-inch screen–measured diagonally.

* Maps of Europe, Canada, and Mexico.

* Incorporate Bluetooth.

* Tell you real time traffic and weather.

* Can be used as a digital picture viewer, audio book player, or mp3.

* Have a much larger POI database.

What you really need to do now is to figure out how much you’re willing to pay, and then see which makes and models will fit your budget. Let me give you a few examples.

A basic GPS costs $200 or less. For that you can buy a really nice unit from Garmin, Tom Tom, or Magellan which can do all of the basic features listed above. Three possible models are the Garmin nuvi 200, the Tom Tom One, 3rd Edition, or the Magellan Maestro 3100.

If you don’t need Bluetooth for hands free calling, or directions that actually say the name of the street (but which do say “turn right,” or something to that effect), then a basic unit may easily be all you need to buy.

If you want all the bells and whistles, then you’re going to have to pay more. The top of the line unit that Garmin makes costs in the neighborhood of $900, but it can do everything for you except tie your shoes. (They have a model coming out next year that can do just that! Just kidding!)

GPS units are great and there are a ton of other features you can get with these devices. What you need to do now is decide on your budget and get online and shop.

Keep Your Cellphone Secure. and Keep Track of It, Anytime!

Fabiol asked:

Let’s face it, for the citizen of the modern world, being connected at any time has become a primary need. And along with the need of being connected and reachable in every moment, goes the need of being secure, and safe from prying eyes and ears who might keep a watchful eye on us and the things that matter to us, either business or personal.

So, if on one hand being always available can benefit your business and personal life, on the other hand, it means that your whereabouts are always known, or at least traceable… and the same can happen to your conversations.

Do you fear that someone may listen to your conversations or intercept your messages on your cell phone? Are you looking for a definitive solution to mobile phone privacy and security problems?

The answer is called Safe & Talk.

Safe & Talk is a software solution that enables you to make encrypted secure calls over the standard GSM network with an extreme reliability, by encrypting your calls and your SMS.

Basically, it is a piece of software which can turn any regular mobile phone into a secure handset, by encrypting your phone calls and protecting them against tapping and malicious interception.

It runs on a 256-bit encryption key, that can be changed at any time, and its software will automatically configure itself according to the encryption standards of the network you are using. No complicated settings to be configured, just install it, turn on your phone, enter your secret key and you are just a phone call away from security and safety!

Secret keys can be changed at any time, to ensure that they cannot be hacked by a third party, and can be entered every time if necessary. Changing the key regularly will help in maintaining a high level of security.

Apart from technical details, in a few words we may say that the times when only high-end cellphones could feature high-security accessories are over. With Safe & Talk, you can turn any standard cellphone running on a Symbian operating system (the standard, for example, on camera phones), into a secure device!

And that’s not all: one of the extra features of Safe & Talk is an additional software module which, just like a GPS tracker, allows you to discreetly locate the position of your phone, in case it gets lost or stolen. This makes it perfect for covert operations, when it is important not only to be secure, but also to be tracked at any time!

This kind of item is available in specialized online Spy Shops that you can visit for more information.

GPS Competitors

Steve Kinder asked:

GLONASS:

The Russian Federation controls and operates a constellation of satellites and related ground stations called GLONASS, for purposes similar to GPS. GLONASS was developed and launched originally by the Soviet Union and has been in operation for several years now, similar to GPS. But since break up of the Soviet Union, the Russian Federation has not maintained GLONASS in a fully operational mode. The reasons are not technical in nature but are due to scarcity of money for maintenance of a fully operational constellation of GLONASS satellites. Similar to GPS, a certain minimum number of GLONASS satellites are required to achieve the fully operational status of providing view of at least four satellites everywhere on earth and at all times. Remember from discussions in the previous tutorial sections that the ‘sacred’ minimum number of satellites for fully operational status of GPS is twenty-four. So is there for GLONASS. Currently, however, the GLONASS satellite constellation consists of only twelve operational satellites. The Russian Federation has made announcements that it intends to upgrade GLONASS to fully operational status in the near future.

GALILEO:

The availability and accuracy of GPS is controlled by the US Government. Now if you consider the fact that GPS applications are permeating into many aspects of civilian lifestyle all over the world. Use of GPS in automobiles is ubiquitous today - pretty soon GPS use for applications such as life saving emergency co-ordination and other critical applications for the civilian community (during times of war and peace) can be expected to become ubiquitous. Thus, one might have a tendency to derive a conclusion that the US Government has a means of controlling the life style of civilians all over the world to a certain extent.

Such politics and other financial reasons (such as for obtaining financial benefits for European industry instead of US companies) led to the Europeans to design an entirely new global navigation system called GALILEO, over which they would have total control. Off course, if you ask the politicians, they might not want to tell you the story in a manner as explicit as presented here!

Currently, the GALILEO navigation system is in a design and development phase. The satellite constellation is not expected to be operational until year 2010. The system is expected to work similar to GPS and provide a similar usage for civilians all over the world.

Using Your Laptop As a GPS Unit

Howto | Friday July 23 2010 12:21 pm | Comments (0) Tags: , ,
Richard Neesal asked:

If you don’t want to invest in a hand-held or vehicle-mounted GPS unit, you do have the much less expensive option of converting your laptop into a GPS unit with special software.

If your laptop has a good battery and an embedded wi-fi program, you may prefer investing the money into this software, which is very easy to use. With this software you can locate POIs (points or place of interest), or upload new ones for future reference. You can upload maps for regions where you will be traveling.

Of course, not everybody relishes the idea of having to keep a laptop computer up on the dashboard of their car like some police officer. They might instead use the option of finding and then printing out maps or POI, options which this ubiquitous GPS software comes with. On the other hand, for those who need to do a lot of driving in unfamiliar areas such as those who are salesmen, having the laptop GPS software might be even better than a dash-mounted unit; for the screen is much larger and it might be easier to glance over at it than to try constantly glancing down at a small-screen unit even if that unit is in front of them.

In either case, there may be times when it’s necessary to pull over for a moment to read the screen. Nevertheless, it’s still more convenient than carrying around a glovebox full of maps that aren’t pinpointed as accurately as one of the printed out GPS maps.

Laptop-ready GPS software can be found in most major electronics and computer software stores. You can also easily find this software on the Internet. One of the top GPS software programs is that made by DeLorme in its new Earthmate GPS LT-40, which plugs into laptop via USB cable.

The leading features of this GPS software includes a high-sensitivity WAAS-enabled GPS receiver as well as the new Street Atlas USA 2009 software. DeLorme with this also provide a new, advanced interface, the features of which include a “cockpit view” of airplane-inspired navigation cues as well as a wide 3D perspective of the roads you are travelling.

Garmin, a leader in GPS technology, also makes superior laptop GPS software. With its Mobile 10 software, you don’t need the USB cable; this is a high-sensitivity GPS receiver which connects to your laptop via wireless Bluetooth technology. This also comes with Garmin’s Mobile XT, nRoute navigation software, and detailed City Navigator street maps.

Microsoft also makes excellent GPS software called Streets & Trips 2008, which comes with a high-sensitivity GPS receiver which plugs directly into your laptop’s USB port without the need for any cable.

This software also comes with automatic re-routing, a perspective map that simulates what you see ahead of you on the road, day-night backlight modes, voice prompted directions, auto-zoom to that provides a more accurate view of your next turn, and a large database of POI.

So for those who are already enamored of their laptops and who don’t want to lay out the cash for a GPS unit, the laptop software is the way to go.

GPS Tracking Using a Cellphone

Steve Knowles asked:

The GPS-enabled cellphone market is forecast to more than double by 2012, hitting 550 million units. Put it all

together and GPS chipset revenue is expected to more than double to $1.3 billion in just three years time,

according to In-Stat. The GPS-based NextGen system, slated for completion by 2025, will straighten routes (blue)

and allow more planes to safely share the skies. Currently, Air Traffic Control Towers (ATCT) guide planes through

takeoff, then hand them over to a Terminal Radar Approach Control (TRACON) facility that keeps approach and

departure corridors orderly over the next 50 miles. The GPS system has been designed to be as nearly accurate as

possible. However, there are still errors.

Cell phone GPS tracking can also be a useful feature to the emergency services or police when responding to a 911

call from a GPS cell phone. For this reason, the FCC has legislated that wireless networks provide location

information for 911 calls made from cell phones. Cell phone GPS tracking systems is touted as one of the most

advanced technological milestones in the history of mobile communication systems. Global Positioning Systems (GPS)

enables the users to trail his own location through the analysis of satellite signals beamed down from many

satellites. Cell phone GPS website Mandated in the aftermath of September 11th, the Federal Communication

Commission (FCC) required cell service providers to make GPS tracking of cell phone calls possible. All phones made

since 2005 are GPS-trackable.

Cell phone GPS tracking is one of those advances. Cell Phone GPS tracking can prove useful in many walks of life

and especially when any emergency arises. Picture the scene of a road accident where injuries have occurred.

Update: Nokia intend the N95 to be a powerful one for all replacement for a media player, digital camera, digital

camera, PDA and now a GPS navigation device. It features a 2-way slide concept to simplify switching between

different functionalities. Nokia, Motorola and Beneflon are just a few of the companies now providing GPS-enabled

phones. This will change as the other manufacturers catch up, then we will see this technology being installed as a

default inclusion.

How To Compare Thousands of Mobile Phones And Price Plans in Under 10 Seconds

Dan Sherman asked:

Have you noticed the frequency of new mobile phone shops opening in your local high street lately? Have you also noticed the number of deals offered by these outlets?

No two outlets seem to offer the same deals. If you are after more minutes, a good phone and a reasonably priced plan, all at the same time then you better put some time aside because it is going to take you a while to sift through all those sale broachers. And the deals offered by these outlets are often better than those offered by the phone companies themselves.

Carrying a mobile phone has become an essential and acceptable part of our culture now. In fact, it sounds for some one not carrying a phone; especially of they are under 50.

The mobile phone companies are increasingly becoming aware of catering to the varied tastes of all ages – from teenagers to grand dads, and ever one in between. Companies are introducing all sorts of phone models as well as price plans to entice the consumers based upon what people want. This is called segmentation of the customer base.

Lets consider for a moment the age groups that these companies have to cater for. Phones used by young customers are unlikeliest candidates for people at pension-able ages. Younger people like features in their phones while older customers are interested in the functionality and practicality of their cell phones.

Similarly younger customers are keen to send texts and chat with their friends and peers while older customers want the phone to have a brief conversation when there is no other alternative.

Mobile phone companies have to cater for the requirements for ALL these customers. That is why they have so many phone models. And that is also why there are so many price plan options.

Last time I checked, there were more than 20,000 combinations of phone models and price plan deals in UK alone. This is mainly generated by 5 main mobile phone companies which they sell either directly or via their partners in high street or on the web.

If you are an average mobile phone user then how easy it is to wad through all these deals and choose the one that fits in with your life style and pocket? It is not easy. There has to be an easy way.

Well, some sites can compare almost all mobile phones and associated deals offered by virtually every major operator and player in UK. All these 20,000 deals are quickly compared in less than 10 seconds.

Try it! You are guaranteed to be amazed.
