No you can not replace just the upper glass. Goto PDAparts(dot)com and lookup part number IP-2085 and read the description on why you can not do this. Do not waste your money on buying a glass top off ebay you will just send up buying a complete screen after you find out it can not be done.

I have a 1st gen iPhone and the screen has a little crack. The bottom half of the screen does not respond only the upper touch screen does. Does replacing the LCD and the Digitalizer will make it work again?

You can NOT replace just the glass. You have to replace the complete screen which includes the LCD and Digitizer glass. GOTO PDAparts(dot)com and read the description on part number IP-2085 for more details on why you can not replace just the glass.

  24. Comment by pdaparts — October 28, 2009 @ 6:44 am

On the iPhone Gen 1 you can not just replace the digitizer. You must replace the complete screen because the digitizer and LCD are fuzed together at the factory and they can not be taken apart.
